Nationally only about 5 percent of commuters take mass transit to work, but with the increase in gasoline prices, many people feel it really makes sense to get out of their cars and onto mass transit.

In the future, as freeways become even more congested, additional commuters may abandon the family auto for rapid transit, subways, light rail, inter-city rail, buses, and other forms of mass transit.
